my first issue of a studio letter !

Watch your in box in the next few days for the inaugural issue of my Studio Letter. I was looking for something a bit more personal – something to be delivered directly to you rather than hoping you’d find it on my website’s blog – not a newsletter really and most certainly NOT form emails. My friend Chris in San Francisco who has become my “business buddy” suggested that I write a studio letter when the muse strikes. We thought a bit about what to include – short articles on techniques and resources, columns responding to interesting questions from my students and correspondents, information on my upcoming workshops and classes and perhaps a studio challenge or two for you.

The October issue highlights how I  began the exploration of creating my own patina papers. I came across a  faux finish brochure that had formulas charted out for “faux metallic walls“. Some of the colors were steel rust, copper patina green, copper patina blue and bronze. I’d been adapting some faux finish techniques onto my paste papers and this really got the juices flowing.  I used instructions for creating the faux wall finishes and applied them to one of my favorite papers which I use as a base for creating decorative papers – Arches Text Wove.  I used Elmer’s Papier Mache Paste with acrylic paint and even mixed in metallic powders to create the magic metallic pastes !  Read the October Studio Letter for the rest of the story !

Silk & Color in the Studio !

flowing silk scarves……colors that inspire me and laying down wax marks and images to resist all that color creating a marvelous flowing work of art to wear !  The October Studio Letter also reveals the magic behind these beautiful pieces. I have had some success with lettering on the silk with sumi ink and hope to make some zen-like scarves with sumi marks as well.  I will also be teaching a workshop April 9-13, 2013 at the Needlework & Textile Guild of Michigan on adding texture to fabric.

Holiday Gift Ideas …….. These hand painted silk scarves will be sold at the Village Fine Art Gallery at the Villages of Rochester (Rochester Hills, Michigan) from October 15 thru December 31. If the Muse allows I will also post some of them on Etsy.  The gallery will also be carrying my collage cards and some framed collages . You can also order a scarf , collage cards or a framed collage piece directly from me – contact me @ for more information or to place an order!

Want to be sure you are on the Studio Letter list ? leave your name and email address on or add your name to my website’s mailing list. As always you can be assured I don’t trade – sell or share your information. And I would be most grateful if you wish to share the letter – my blog posts and website address with your circle of artists, friends, family and colleagues.
