TOTALLY TRANSFERS !!! goes on-line

Posted by: Jacqueline Sullivan on January 15th, 2017

Totally Transfers image

Jacqueline’s first on-line workshop for 2017

I love image transfers!  Sometimes using them as the focal image in a collage and other times just to add a little extra to an art piece. An image transfer is, to put it simply, the act of transferring an image from one source to another. Depending upon what material you are wanting to transfer onto will determine what type of transfer method you choose to use.

In this one month on-line class, we will explore many ways to add image transfers to paper, wood and fabric. Transfers are transparent, allowing you to layer images and let the surface design show through. The transferred image often is a more integral part of the final work because of its transparency. Depending on the method, some transfers create a lovely aged and distressed image due to the natural imperfection of the technique.

Totally Transfers ! is a four session online art workshop with lessons and projects designed by Jacqueline. Each session will feature one to two different techniques and the last session will show how to build a collage using the processes learned in the first three sessions.  Jacqueline will explain in easy to understand language the differences and best uses for each of the transfer techniques covered.

for a complete description of the workshop, registration information and on-line workshop format please see this information card

I try to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music.

The Dutch Artist’s 800 page color book from 1692

Posted by: Jacqueline Sullivan on May 26th, 2014

By now, many have seen the images of a 1692 watercolor mixing book unknown to most of the art world for the better part of three centuries. The Dutch artist known only as A. Boogert created this masterpiece 271 years BEFORE Pantone ever thought of a “color of the year” and the marketing and merchandising possibilities that one color could yield. Boogert’s 800 page hand-made book details how to mix colors, hues and shades created by adding 1,2, or 3 parts of water. The book was created as an educational guide with a loosely translated title from medieval french as Treaty of colors used to water paint.

Erik Kwakkel, a medieval book historian in the Netherlands, discovered the presence of the book on a french library database earlier this year.

The entire book is available in high resolution images on this site – eCorpus

The book is currently housed at the Bibliothèque Méjanes in Aix-en-Provence, France and Erik Kwakkel has written that the book is just beginning to be studied by art historians and will be the subject of a doctoral dissertation from the Netherlands to be published in 2015.

The book has been discussed on art forums, yahoo groups and displayed on art sites such as colossal and gizmodo.
